Imaging for
MSK Ultrasound helps phyisicians to diagnose injuries and conditions and is less expensive than most other imaging methods such as MRI.
There are no known side effects. Ultrasound uses sound waves to see interior structures of the body.
Soft tissues such as muscles and tendons do not appear clearly on x-ray, so ultrasound is recommended to get a clear understanding of the condition.
Ultrasound can help to diagnose tendon tears, ligament sprains, muscle strains, nerve entrapment, degernerative arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. It captures real-time images to show the movement of structures such as tendons, joints and extremeties.
Patients with previous surgeries such as joint replacements, soft tissue repair, cardiac pacemakers, certain types of metallic implants or fragments in the body, can safely receive ultrasound.
Ultrasound is also faster than MRI and does not require the patient to remain completely still.
